Staff may now apply online for their parking permits which are valid for the new calendar year. However? before proceeding? applicants should read the attached?Letter from Deputy Vice-Chancellor Adam Wheeler.
The cost of permits for car sharers has been held at ?10 per month to encourage this way of travelling. Sharers benefit from paying less for their permit and saving on fuel costs and wear and tear on their vehicles. They can also enjoy social interaction whilst travelling and help cut their carbon footprint. If staff would like to car share but have not been able to identify a friend or colleague at the University to travel with then please visit liftshare.com. The University is signed up to liftshare. com and they will put you in contact with another member of the University staff who would also like to car share.
Applicants should check that their work location is correctly held by iSolutions as this is the address to which permits will be sent. To do this easily, right click on personal email addresses and then click on Properties. There are times when Parking Services needs to contact permit holders as a matter of urgency. In order for telephone numbers to be printed on permits, the number should also be be held by iSolutions. Where staff are not office based, it would be helpful to give the number of a line manager. Details can be updated at https://subscribe.iss.soton.ac.uk/subscribed.html .
Anyone who has moved recently and has not advised HR of their change of address should update their details in Myview.
Applicants should take care when completing the application as this will help ensure that the right permit is issued:
They should apply for a personal permit if that is what they need and not a departmental one which is for a departmental vehicle or for general use within the School or Professional Service Group.
They should apply for the correct parking location.
They should indicate on the first page if they have access to more than 1 vehicle. The system will accept details of up to 4 vehicles but successful applicants will only be sent a maximum of 2 permits. If they normally use one vehicle and add an additional vehicle to their application at a later time, they should be aware that the system will not automatically generate an additional permit. They will need to make a request to parking@soton.ac.uk for the second permit to be added to the next print run.
If they live more than 2 miles away from the University, they should not adjust the calculation offered by the online system as this will prevent an application from being approved automatically. The actual mileage for those applicants living within 2 miles will be determined so that those living 2 kilometres away may be looked at individually (as per the information contained in Professor Wheeler’s letter).
Gower permits will be carefully vetted as demand is likely to exceed availability and not all applications will be successful. There is already a waiting list in place for the Gower. This facility is primarily intended for staff who need to use their cars on business during the working day.
They should fully complete the application – once the Regulations for the Registration and Parking of Motor Vehicles have been accepted, applicants must submit and finish an application before leaving the site, otherwise the data is not stored.
An automatic email will also be sent when a permit has been approved with the permit number. Permits will be despatched en masse and are unlikely to reach successful applicants before the Christmas break. The automatic email issued with the 2010 permit number should be placed on the dashboard from 4 January 2010 and the 2009 permit left on the windscreen until the 2010 permit is available.
