International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) is celebrated every year on 17 May to commemorate the date in 1990 that the World Health Organisation declassified homosexuality as a disease. Despite this LGBT+ people continue to face hate, discrimination, and violence across the world. The theme this year is ‘BOB体育登录网址_欧宝体育官网平台-APP|下载 Bodies, BOB体育登录网址_欧宝体育官网平台-APP|下载 Lives, BOB体育登录网址_欧宝体育官网平台-APP|下载 Rights’.
The University is committed to an inclusive environment free from homophobia, biphobia and transphobia and to mark the event, will be flying the Rainbow flag on Highfield Campus at 9:30 on Tuesday 17 May 2022. All staff and students are invited to join us in raising the flag.
The Pulse LGBT+ Staff Network will be organising a get-together over lunch at 12:30 – 13:30 in the Staff Club.? You can bring your own lunch or buy lunch there. All are welcome to attend.
There will also be stalls in the foyer from 10:00 – 14:00 in Building 53 and on Level 1 in Building 32 (near the Lecture Theatre 1015) provided by the School of Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) and the Pulse LGBT+ Staff Network.
The stalls offer numerous goodies, fresh fruit and gadgets to take away, and as in previous years ECS will be issuing stickers for staff and students to wear on the day in support of the LGBT+ community.
