Council approves the Annual Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Report

University Council has approved the university’s Annual Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Report.

This was the fourth year of our five-year Strategic Plan for EDI, which sets out our mission to create an inclusive University community where we all feel welcomed, supported, and valued.

The report reflects on the good progress made against the six goals set out in the Strategic Plan, and the breadth of work going on to support the delivery of our four equality objectives, including the implementation of the Inclusion and Respectful Behaviour Policy. The report also provides Council with assurance that the University is meeting its legal obligations under the Equality Act 2010, and specifically our Public Sector Equality Duty.

Professor Mark E. Smith, Vice-Chancellor, commented:

“I am immensely proud of the progress that has been made toward our vision for EDI in the university. At a time when national and global events may feel unsettling, we remain steadfast and deeply committed to our mission to create an inclusive and respectful community.

“I am confident in the analytical and insight driven approach we are taking toward EDI and our deepening understanding of the experience of staff and students. This will continue to serve us well as we pursue our ambitions for Transnational Education and navigate the new opportunities and challenges this presents.”

“I am also hugely encouraged by the large number of staff and students who are playing a role in supporting us in achieving our vision, working in partnership with those leading EDI for the university. Thank you to everyone who is playing a part.”
