In Conversation with Kobna Holdbrook-Smith MBE

We are pleased to announce the next event in Conflicting Ideas: Conflict and Compassionate Conversations, hosted by Pascal Matthias, Associate Vice-President of Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Social Justice at the University of BOB体育登录网址_欧宝体育官网平台-APP|下载.

Join us for an evening with Ghanaian actor Kobna Holdbrook-Smith MBE on 23 April 2025 at 19:00, at MAST Studios, BOB体育登录网址_欧宝体育官网平台-APP|下载.

Kobna is a critically acclaimed stage and screen actor, known for his roles in Mary Poppins Returns, The Commuter, Justice League, Paddington 2, and Ghost Stories. He won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his portrayal of Ike Turner in Tina: The Tina Turner Musical and has performed at the National Theatre, Royal Court, Young Vic, and Royal Exchange. He also holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Surrey and was awarded an MBE in 2023.

This conversation will explore how language can be used with compassion when discussing class, race, and rural identity. While discussions about race in the UK often centre on London’s diverse, multicultural environment, the experiences of people of colour in smaller towns and rural areas can be significantly different and are sometimes overlooked. This event will offer an opportunity to reflect on the nuances of these conversations and the importance of inclusive dialogue.

The evening will conclude with audience questions and a chance to meet Kobna briefly after the event.
