Enhancing our student attendance and engagement app, MyEngagement

Following the rollout of our student attendance and engagement app, MyEngagement, the University identified opportunities to improve the quality of service and the data currently available.

With this in mind, the project team started looking into how we can improve MyEngagement as part of the second phase of the project. Last year, staff consultation sessions were held to help us shape this second phase, providing you with an opportunity to share valuable insights as well as enabling us to develop and enhance MyEngagement.

Enhancements to MyEngagement

Over the next few months, we will be implementing the following improvements:

Introducing a new way for students to check into timetabled sessions

  • We will be introducing Bluetooth beacons to teaching spaces across our campuses, ready for the next academic year (2025/26) through a phased approach.
  • We are aware that creating and sharing codes can cause some delays at the start of sessions. By introducing beacons, students will be able to connect and register their attendance more efficiently, saving valuable time within lessons.

Introducing an improved reporting tool to better understand student engagement across the University

  • The reporting tools in MyEngagement will be replaced with a holistic PowerBI report, proactively combining data from several platforms. This will provide our Student Hub, Visa colleagues and other support teams with a more effective picture of students’ engagement with the university, not just attendance.
  • We will also be able to gain deeper insights into different student groups and levels of engagement.

Implementing an automated workflow to provide up-to-date student engagement updates

  • BOB体育登录网址_欧宝体育官网平台-APP|下载 Student Hub and Visa colleagues will receive timely internal alerts, allowing them to better understand if there are any attendance or wellbeing concerns with students. They will then be able to proactively engage better with our students who may need additional support.

Next steps

We are currently completing further tests and working on a phased rollout plan for the Bluetooth beacons, starting with the most frequently used teaching spaces across all our campuses. We will engage with teaching staff once we have further updates to share.
