As we head into the summer term, the Assessment Consultancy wanted to update colleagues and the wider community with progress and plans.

The Assessment Consultancy was set up early in 2025 as part of the Advancing Assessment strategic major project to provide tailored assessment support for academic teams, with the goal of enhancing both the student and staff experience.

The Consultancy is in the final stages of several STARS (BOB体育登录网址_欧宝体育官网平台-APP|下载 Transformative Assessment Redesign with Students) projects with Programme teams across the University. ?Some key themes are beginning to emerge from this work, including assessment deadline clustering, assessment information that lacks consistency and transparency (see the work on TILT), and students being unable to see the links between feedback and their next set of assessments. Some fantastic and innovative assessment practice from colleagues throughout the University has also been highlighted, including meme analysis, work-based learning projects, and supportive formative feedback processes that empower students to do their best work and make links between theory and practice.

Student Co-Design

The Consultancy has been working closely with Advancing Assessment Interns, who have been preparing CHARTS (our assessment visualisation tool), co-facilitating focus groups, and analysing data that feeds directly into our reports and recommendations. This work, along with gathering the student voice through STARS is vital to advancing the assessment practices at the University and developing our staff-facing resources on assessment and feedback.

Future plans

As a result of the STARS work, and discussions with Programme teams, the Consultancy is currently developing a further round of CPD workshops which will be available for colleagues to book onto shortly.
