Shifting Mindsets: Rethinking Social Mobility with Justine Greening

In recognition of Social Mobility Awareness Day on 12 June, the University of BOB体育登录网址_欧宝体育官网平台-APP|下载’s Social Mobility Network is proud to highlight a powerful piece of work produced in collaboration with the University’s Joint Chancellor, Justine Greening.

The theme for this year’s Social Mobility Awareness Day is “Shift Mindsets” – a call to move beyond using social mobility as a buzzword and instead rethink how we build more inclusive, forward-thinking teams. Social mobility is not just a matter of fairness; it’s a strategic advantage. In all industries, a socio-economically diverse workforce brings a broader range of perspectives, fuels innovation, and strengthens decision-making – at the University, innovative programmes such as Career Vision Plus Club and Ignite Your Success contribute to this.

In support of this theme, Justine Greening has worked closely with the Social Mobility Network to produce a compelling video that explores what it means to shift mindsets in practice, and why this matters for individuals, institutions, and society.

“Shift Mindsets” has always been an integral part of the Social Mobility Network’s mission statement. Founded in 2021, the Network is a dedicated space for individuals who self-define as either currently being from, or originating from, a low socioeconomic background as well as those who have a vested interest to get involved with the work of the Network and can act as champions for it. Members of the Social Mobility Network can inform and create change that will benefit students and staff at the University of BOB体育登录网址_欧宝体育官网平台-APP|下载 that are from income or class backgrounds that traditionally experience more obstacles.

We always welcome new members – both staff and students from across the University – and would encourage those interested to join the Teams group to stay up to date with the Network’s activities (Social Mobility Network | General | Microsoft Teams).
