Strategic Research Equipment and Infrastructure Panel awards MULSER funding to three applicants

Following an intensive School and Faculty review process, the Strategic Research Equipment and Infrastructure Panel (SREIP) convened for the first time on 29 April 2025, with 18 Research Equipment and Infrastructure Pipeline submissions having advanced to the institutional level for SREIP to review. This included three pieces of equipment proposed for direct Multi-user Large Scale Strategic Equipment for Research (MULSER) investment.

With SREIP’s review concluded, it was agreed in principle to allocate MULSER funding to the three proposals listed below, each of which was deemed a critical addition to our research infrastructure that will benefit both the host School and the wider University, and will support the growth of our research activities.

  • Clinical Practice Research Datalink – ?83,000 to John McBeth for the School of Primary Care, Population Sciences and Medical Education
  • Tobii Pro Spectrum 1200 Eye Tracker – ?43,000 to Mark Young and Stefan Bleeck for the School of Engineering
  • Axion Biosystems: Maestro Edge + Omni FL – ?179,300 to Rosalia Moreddu and Mariana Vargas-Caballero for the School of Electronics and Computer Science

Researchers who have an equipment need (above ?25k) that they wish to have considered for MULSER funding, or those who are seeking to apply to a managed equipment funding opportunity, are invited to engage with the Research Equipment and Infrastructure Pipeline using this Microsoft Form.

The Research Equipment and Infrastructure Pipeline initiative is supported by the Strategic Research Initiatives team in Research and Innovation Services. Please contact ResInitiatives@soton.ac.uk with any queries.
