Today, the Jubilee Sport and Recreation Centre celebrates one year of inspiring movement and activity. Since opening, the centre has seen record participation, with students, staff, and the wider community embracing the facilities on offer.
With a growing membership, visitors can enjoy climbing walls, speed climbing, a 200-station TechnoGym, indoor studios, squash courts, and a welcoming café. Guided tours are available for those yet to explore the centre.
Looking ahead, the Centre and University continue to drive their commitment to physical activity through the launch of the University and Students’ Union Active-for-All 2031 plan. This is alongside initiatives such as Exercise is Medicine, the new BLK BOX gym equipment performance centre for high-performance student athletes (opening in late September), the introduction of new offerings like Hyrox, and essential swimming pool upgrades due for completion in mid-October.
Highlighting the impact, Trudi Vout, Director of Residences, Sport & Community Services, said:
‘In just one year, our University has advanced a culture of movement and inclusion. It is inspiring to see the centre thrive, bringing more activity, energy, and community engagement to everyone who visits.’
The project was recently announced as a finalist at the National UK Active Awards for Build, Design, and Refurbishment of the Year? – recognition of its outstanding facilities and impact.
